About the partnership

TEAMING UP 4 FORESTS

Partners

TEAMING UP 4 FORESTS is a partnership initiated by IUFRO and Mondi in 2021. We aim at integrating new industry partners in the future to gain new insights, expand our network and broaden our reach in the forest-based sector.
This partnership is the outcome of continued cooperation since 2017 and underscores our strong commitment to the important role of forest-related business and science in advancing action towards sustainable development

International Union of Forest Research Organizations (IUFRO)

The International Union of Forest Research Organizations is the only worldwide organization devoted to forest research and related sciences. It offers a global network for voluntary cooperation and connects more than 630 Member Organizations in more than 115 countries worldwide. Its members are research institutions, universities, and individual scientists as well as decision-making authorities and other stakeholders with a focus on forests and trees. IUFRO aims to contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals set by the United Nations.

Mondi

Mondi is a global leader in packaging and paper, contributing to a better world by making innovative packaging and paper solutions that are sustainable by design. Our business is integrated across the value chain – from managing forests and producing pulp, paper and plastic films, to developing and manufacturing effective industrial and consumer packaging solutions.

Sustainability is at the centre of our strategy and intrinsic in the way we do business. Our sustainability framework Mondi Action Plan 2030 („MAP20230“) is designed to tackle sustainability issues across the value chain. Part of its commitments include maintaining zero deforestation in its wood fibre supply and sourcing from resilient forests, as well safeguarding biodiversity.

As Mondi, this partnership allows us to actively collaborate with the scientific community in a structured way to address climate change challenges, gain broad access to research, and convert this into practical applications and improved operations.

Think Tank Meetings

Get informed. At our Think Tank Meetings, we identify forest relevant research priorities and exchange and synthesize knowledge of priority themes.

Scientific studies

Gain knowledge. We conduct studies and provide reports of synthesized information as well as summaries for business representatives.

Stakeholder Dialogues

Discuss, share and inform. Through our Stakeholder Dialogues, we discuss priority themes with stakeholders and inform various platforms and processes.

Workshops, seminars and field trips

Connect, exchange and learn. We offer workshop series to connect early-career researchers and business professionals and provide opportunities for exchange and mutual learning.

What we do

We aim to identify science based future pathways for response measures on key challenges. Providing information through Think Tank Meetings and Studies will form the basis. Stakeholder Dialogues will share and discuss findings of studies and Think Tank Meetings and aim to identify options for the way forward. Workshops, seminars and fieldtrips aim to provide opportunities for training and mutual learning among young scientists and business professionals.
